The New Brunswick Department of Health will be creating greater awareness about the COVID-19 vaccine for younger children between the ages of six months and five years old.
Health Canada approved Moderna’s Spikevax vaccine last week for that age category.
The dose for children under five is one-quarter the amount of an adult shot.
On Friday, Premier Blaine Higgs said he was concerned because it has been more difficult lately to vaccinate older children in the province.
“There will be a campaign put in place in order to address this and the safety of the vaccines and the importance of doing so.
“I know it’s a struggle and it’s an issue with overall vaccinations. We’ve reduced the age limit to encourage people to get their third and fourth dose.”
Higgs added this struggle comes despite a recent surge in COVID-19 cases across the province.
