Tim Hortons Camp Day is back.
Proceeds from hot and iced coffee sold today will go to help send children in need to one of seven camps run by the Tim Hortons Foundation.
Executive Program and Operations Officer Katie Wheatley says it is more than just a camping experience.
“On the surface, our camps look like any other camp. Kids are having fun. They’re outside canoeing. They’re hiking. They’re making smores. They’re laughing. They’re having a great time. But really what we’re all about is closing an opportunity gap for young people. We’re supporting youth in developing social and emotional skills so that they have the tools and the skills to successfully transition to adulthood,” says Wheatley.
Over 300,000 youth have attended the camps over their 30-year history.
There is no cost to them as Camp Day helps cover those expenses.
During the pandemic, the camps were offered virtually.
Wheatley says they are excited to have children back in person.
“You know, we pivoted quickly when COVID hit two years ago, and we knew that all the services and the supports that our youth would be accessing through their schools or their communities had become increasingly difficult to access. So it was on us to find another way to show up for them, and we did that with remote programming or digital programming. But we have been so excited to get kids back to in-person experiences this summer after two years of not having kids at our facilities.”
Camp Day has raised over $225 million in its 30-year history.
