The prime minister says he will of course continue to work together with the provinces and territories on health care.
Justin Trudeau was a bit amused when asked by reporters why he seems to be ghosting the premiers.
“I don’t think there is a prime minister in Canadian history who over the entire scope of their time in office has met with the premiers and sat down to talk about health care as much as I have over the past two years.”
But Trudeau says it must be about more than just funding.
“(We have to) make sure that those dollars that we put in deliver real, tangible results for Canadians in shorter wait times, in better services and in access to a family doctor.”
Trudeau pledges the federal government will be investing more in health care.
After the premiers met this week in Victoria, all 13 demanded a meeting soon with the prime minister about health care funding.
The premiers continue to call on Ottawa to increase health transfer payments to the provinces from 22 per cent to 35 per cent.
