The New Brunswick SPCA (NBSPCA) is investigating a case of alleged animal neglect in the northern part of the province.
Animal protection officers responded to a report of a neglected dog in a rural area north of Miramichi on June 21.
“A concerned caller had reported that the dog seems to have been chained its whole life,” NBSPCA said in a post on its Facebook page on Wednesday.
Officers who arrived at the scene found a dog chained in the backyard with the chain embedded in his neck.
The dog, named Link, was also dirty, very thin, and missing fur, according to NBSPCA.
“The owners surrendered the dog to the NBSPCA and he was taken for immediate emergency veterinary care, where he underwent surgery to remove the chain and received treatment for other medical concerns,” said the post.
Officials say Link is recovering at the Bathurst SPCA and is looking for a new home.
NBSPCA declined to comment further, saying the matter is still under investigation.
