A New Brunswick-based trucking company is adding more than 200 new employees to its team.
Shoreland Transport, owned by Cooke Inc., has acquired Nova Scotia-based Connors Transfer Limited.
“Connors is a trusted transportation provider known for their exceptionally high level of customer service,” Shoreland CEO Glenn Cooke said in a news release.
“Its growth over the years, supported by a number of long-term employees and customers, is a testament to the fact they are one of the most reliable and transparent operators in the industry.”
Connors was founded in Stellarton, N.S., in 1982 by brothers Glenn and Lauchie Connors. It began as a two-truck operation, delivering dry goods to Nova Scotia grocery stores and eventually moving to fresh and frozen produce.
Four decades later, Connors has grown to a fleet of more than 140 trucks and 260 trailers, with four terminal locations throughout Eastern Canada.
Lauchie Connors, CEO of Connors Transfer Limited, said it means a lot to their family to have the business they built join with another Atlantic Canada-based family-owned company.
“This will create a strong network to support customers, and more opportunities for drivers and staff,” Connors said in the news release.
Cooke said many of Connors’ customers operate in food retail and agri-food, so their business and fleet align very well with Shoreland’s current operations.
Shoreland primarily moves fresh salmon and seafood products for Cooke Aquaculture companies, as well as other customers in Atlantic Canada.
The companies will operate all terminals and facilities and continue to focus on driver retention and recruitment, with an aim to grow its customer base and routes.
Details of the transaction have not been disclosed since both companies are private, family-owned businesses.
