A fundraiser by the New Brunswick SPCA is helping shelters across the province provide animals with essential care and find their forever homes.
“For The Love of Animals” launched in early June as an online 50/50 draw that has, so far, sold more than $15,000 in tickets.
Lesley Rogers, executive director of the New Brunswick SPCA, said shelters work around the clock to give animals a second chance at life.
She said the money raised will help with operational and veterinary costs.
“It also will go towards public education awareness, and trying to get help people who are challenged to get the necessary care that [animals] need,” said Rogers.
Rogers said those who purchase tickets get to pick which shelter receives the money. These include the SPCAs in Fredericton, Oromocto, Moncton, Bathurst, Charlotte County, Carleton County, Victoria County and the Acadian Peninsula.
“We know that 60 per cent of households in New Brunswick have pets, so there’s a lot of animal lovers out there,” said Rogers.
“We want to give them this fun way to show their love and support to their favourite animal shelter or the New Brunswick SPCA.”
Rogers said the work being done by local shelters is crucial, adding a lot more needs to be done so animals are not left in the dark.
“This is a provincial fundraiser with one single pot, so we’re hoping to grow it as large as those that have happened in other provinces, and we just encourage people to get out there and buy their tickets each week,” she said.
Draws happen every Thursday and anybody interested in purchasing tickets can do so here.
