Sunshine will help power a sanitary sewerage lagoon in the town of Grand Bay-Westfield.
A 70kW solar array is being installed at the town facility located on Shannon Road.
Once up and running, it is expected around one-quarter of the power used by the facility each year will come from solar energy.
“As a riverside community which has been directly impacted by the effects of climate change, the Town remains dedicated to environmental leadership now and for our future generations,” Mayor Brittany Merrifield said in a news release.
Work is underway next to the existing 5.28-kilowatt pilot project on site and should be done by September.
The project is expected to cost around $350,000.
