A big milestone for the new Ronald McDonald House in Halifax.
The ground has officially been broken for the site on South Street right across the road from the IWK.
Chief Executive Officer Lori Barker says it will offer a home away from home for families whose kids come to the city for medical care.
“It will eliminate our waitlist, and it will enrich the quality of care we provide for families,” Barker says. “More privacy, private washrooms, full accessibility, more space to connect with families facing similar challenges.”
The new building will double the organization’s existing capacity with 36 bedrooms and private bathrooms.
It will welcome up to 1,200 families each year.
The doors are set to open in 2024.
