A graduate of Simonds High School in Saint John has received a Beaverbrook Scholars Award from the University of New Brunswick.
Mary Debly is one of three students to receive the scholarship, valued at $50,000 over four years.
It recognizes “New Brunswick’s most exceptional students for their academic abilities and community involvement.”
Debly was on the student council throughout high school and was captain of the field hockey team.
Her volunteer experience includes church events and helping at school functions. Debly has also been practicing karate since 2011 and has attained the designation of sensei, or teacher.
Debly will begin a bachelor of arts degree on UNB’s Saint John campus in September.
This year’s recipients also include Dominique Drost of Douglas, a graduate of Leo Hayes High School, and Hearty Uy of Richibucto, a graduate of Bonar Law Memorial High School,
