Long Wharf will play host to a four week event.
From August 11 to September 10, the International Sculpture Symposium will return to Saint John for its fifth and final year.
For this year, eight sculptors were selected from 187 applicants from 57 countries to create pieces of art from 100 tons of granite.
“Over 125,000 people have attended the symposiums as far away as Australia for the last four, approxitmately 30,000 to 35,000 people attend each symposium, so it is a significant draw,” said Diana Alexander, executive director for Sculpture Saint John.
The symposium has three goals, connecting communities through affordable public art, educating the public about public art and its creation, and creating an International Sculpture Trail providing pride in the communities and increased tourism.
“Once the international trail is finished, we will have 38 pieces combining to give us 72 pieces of public art between Maine and New Brunswick. The trail extends for over 870 km with 445 of those are in New Brunswick, so from Bangor, Maine, to Moncton, to Fredericton,” added Alexander.
