New Brunswick recorded three deaths related to COVID-19 for the week ending Saturday, June 25.
That is according to the latest weekly COVID-19 report released by the Department of Health on Tuesday.
The latest deaths, according to the provincial report, involve one person in their 70s and two people aged 90 and over.
There have been 425 deaths attributed to the virus in New Brunswick since the pandemic began.
Meanwhile, New Brunswick’s two health authorities are reporting a decrease in the number of active COVID-19 hospitalizations.
The latest figures show 31 people in the hospital as of Saturday, including one in intensive care. That is compared to the 46 hospitalizations and three ICU admissions reported by the health authorities one week earlier.
- Horizon Health: 24 active admissions and one in intensive care.
- Vitalité Health: Seven active admissions and no one in intensive care.
The figures reported by the health authorities include those hospitalized for COVID and those with the virus being treated primarily for other conditions.
Meanwhile, the latest weekly COVIDWATCH update from the province showed 15 people in the hospital for COVID-19 as of Saturday, a drop of 10. The number of people in an ICU fell by two to one.
The numbers from the province only include patients who were hospitalized as a result of COVID-19.
There were six new hospital admissions for COVID over the past week compared to 17 new admissions the previous week, according to Public Health. There were two new ICU admissions for COVID-19 over the same period.
According to the two health authorities, 118 health care workers were off the job as of Saturday for COVID-related reasons, up from 94 a week earlier.
There were 1,025 reported positive cases of COVID-19 over the past week, a week-over-week increase of nearly 24 per cent. Those figures included 484 PCR tests and 541 rapid tests.
For the first time, the latest COVIDWATCH report also included details about the COVID-19 variants detected in the province.
Amongst the most recent random samples sequenced, 55 per cent were BA.2, 27 per cent were BA.4, and 18 per cent were BA.5.
In terms of vaccinations, the Department of Health says 705 doses were given out over the past week, including 86 first doses, 168 second doses, and 454 booster doses.
Just over 88 per cent of eligible New Brunswickers have received two doses and 52.8 per cent have received booster shots.
