A tea maker and a craft brewer from New Brunswick have teamed up to create a new product.
Using King Cole Tea and Pump House beer with lemon, a new product called The King’s Tea was born.
It’s described as an “Ice Tea Ale where King Cole Tea is cold brewed & steeped in purified water for up 12 hours. The tea is then double filtered and blended with a specially developed Pump House craft beer with lemon.”
The vice-president of Consumer Brands at G.E. Barbour, the blenders of King Cole Tea, says Pump House was already exploring the growing hard iced tea market when he first suggested a partnership over a year ago.
“It was very timely when I approached them and said ‘perhaps we can take our two iconic brands here in Atlantic Canada, partner and make what we think will be world-class hard iced tea,’” Jeff Rose said.
Rose said from conception to launch, it took about 16 months to create The King’s Tea ale, noting it had numerous iterations during that period.
“The King Cole team, we were obviously very interested in having a product that had a distinct taste of our unique blend of tea and at the same time mixed with a certain type of ale and then of course complimented with lemon. All of these things took time to arrive at the right blend, the right mix. Sure enough, I think we landed on it,” Rose said.
Rose said The King’s Tea will be available in provincial liquor stores this week.
It can also be found at The Fill Station and Pump House Brew Pubs in Moncton, and the new location opening soon in Shediac.
“For the initial launch. it’s going to be New Brunswick only. We’ll take a look at the other provinces later in the fall,” Rose said.
