New Brunswick’s New Democratic Party announced late Monday afternoon it has elected Alex White as its new interim leader.
The appointment comes after former leader Mackenzie Thomason stepped down from his role due to internal comments among executive members.
“White is a longstanding member for twenty years and has earned a position of deep respect within the party,” said the party in a statement.
White ran under the party’s banner during the last two provincial elections, representing Saint John East in 2018 and Hampton in 2020. Along with working for the Saint John Newcomers Centre, he also spent time as an English teacher in China and South Korea.
“New Brunswickers need to see comprehensive, accessible health care across the province,” said White in a statement.
“We have all seen the housing and rental crisis spread across our province over recent years. Our working people need respect and dignity, the assurance that a better life is not something of the past, but of the future. The New Brunswick NDP is the only truly progressive party that always works to make life better for all.”
The New Brunswick NDP will hold its provincial convention in July.
