The YMCA of Greater Saint John has partnered with the Village of Blacks Harbour to develop and implement programming for Eastern Charlotte County residents.
The programming will be for all ages and will take place at the Patrick Connors Recreation Complex.
“Blacks Harbour Council has agreed to partner with the YMCA to utilize the arena complex to hold programs for all ages,” said Mayor John Craig in a news release.
“This decision will breathe new life into a major asset of the community by utilizing the building on a year-round basis.”
The partnership will create programming focused on closing the gaps the community has identified.
“We’ll be looking at providing inclusive programs, such as kinder gym for kids, parents and me groups for families, girls in motion, providing social seniors coffees and cards, middle school drop-ins, team nights, and of course group fitness, and some intramural sports, so really something for everyone,” said Shilo Boucher, president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Saint John.
Program planning is underway intending to begin in July.
“That’s our commitment to the community, we want to see some programs in place for the summer and working throughout Eastern Charlotte to provide different opportunities whether inside the complex, or outside in other community spaces,” mentioned Boucher.
Boucher added the YMCA is currently looking for staff and recruiting volunteers.
The YMCA has 18 locations throughout Greater Saint John and serves more than 22,000 people.
