Two communities are getting provincial and federal funding for water and wastewater upgrades.
Riverside-Albert and Sussex will get more than $1.3 million in combined funding from the two levels of government.
More than $712,000 will go to Riverside-Albert to replace its watermains and reduce water consumption.
“This funding will allow us to upgrade some very old water lines in our village that have deteriorated over the years to the point of having leaks and causing concerns of a major failure,” Mayor Jim Campbell said in a news release.
“Without the funding from both levels of government it would not be possible to do this type of project.”
The village will contribute more than $230,000 toward the work, according to the news release from the province.
Sussex, meanwhile, will get more than $632,000 to install a new wastewater pumping station.
“Our continued investment in core infrastructure that serves both the town of Sussex and the village of Sussex Corner municipal wastewater collection services builds the foundations of growth potential while addressing the modernization of critical components that meet today’s environmental service standards and makes our communities sustainable into the future,” Mayor Marc Thorne said in the release.
The municipality is investing more than $259,000 toward the new wastewater pumping station.
Provincial funding for both projects comes from the Regional Development Corporation while the federal funding comes through the Green Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada Program
