Construction is underway on the new transitional home for clients of the Coverdale Centre for Women.
The project on Brunswick Drive was nearly scrapped when it was in danger of losing its government funding.
But several benefactors came through at the 11th hour earlier this year and it was rescued.
Project Manager Graham Savage says they are making good progress.
“The guys are expecting to pour the footings on Monday, at least getting the forms in,” Savage said.
Iron Maple Constructers is the contractor for Rose House.
Savage said they hope to be handed the keys by October 31.
He said both the management team and clients came up with the name, Rose House.
“Rose was chosen basically for peace, love, serenity and they wanted to definitely be identified as a female location so, they felt that Rose was appropriate on that front,” Savage said.
Sponsors are needed for seven of the 12 units to cover the cost of furnishings.
“We want to start the women off with a really good headstart. [The money] is for food and other provisions. The funding we secured could not be used for furnishings.” Savage said.
When completed, Rose House will have 12 micro suites.
