The provincial government has officially opened a new connector road which links Fundy National Park with the Fundy Trail Parkway.
Although the road has been open to vehicle traffic since last September, this will be the first summer that drivers can experience it.
Construction began in 2018 with both the provincial and federal governments contributing to the estimated cost of $45 million.
“The Fundy Connector has been an important capital infrastructure project for many years,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Jill Green.
“Officially opening the final section, which has been decades in the making, will provide a critical link within the Fundy coastal region.”
The province has contributed almost $84 milion in the Fundy Trail Parkway project since it began in 1995.
Almost 70,000 people visited the destination last year.
“The Fundy Trail Parkway is a world-class destination right in our own backyard,” said Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister Tammy Scott-Wallace.
“Thousands of tourists visit the parkway each year to enjoy its breathtaking beauty. Opening the Fundy Connector is an important step in our plan to attract even more visitors to this beautiful part of New Brunswick. We have long awaited this day, and it marks a milestone that bridges a gap on a key tourism piece.”
