More than 100 newcomer adults in New Brunswick are getting ready to launch into the province’s workforce.
They are part of the inaugural graduating cohort of the New Brunswick Multicultural Council’s employability program.
Skills Launch NB includes six months of intensive training and work placements that prepare participants to move into the workforce.
Nearly 30 countries were represented by this year’s participants, and more than 50 employees offered a range of job placements for them.
Officials with the multicultural council say the program has been so popular that there are waitings lists of people wanting to take part.
“The skills gained through this program are not just employment-specific; skills such as problem-solving, goal setting and leadership can be used in all areas of their lives,” the council said in a news release.
“This has helped participants to focus on wellness during these particularly challenging times and continues to help them moving forward.”
Participants also make connections with other newcomers outside of their own cultural groups, as well as with outside community members who partner with the program.
The program was developed in partnership with the council’s member agencies and is co-funded by the federal and provincial governments.
