A six-year-old from Quispamsis held a powerful office for one day on Wednesday.
Cayden Liu was the Saint John Police Force’s ‘Chief For A Day’ after winning a contest.
He often wears a police costume at home and was asked why he likes the police so much.
“Just because I like what you guys are doing to serve the community,” Liu said.
Liu travelled to the police station in a cruiser, spoke on the police radio, and was given a special uniform to wear for the day.
Police Chief Robert Bruce helped him take an oath of office.
Liu was asked about his favourite part of the day as of Wednesday morning.
“So far probably getting dressed in this,” Liu said, referring to his police uniform.
On a tour of the station, a few officers requested the day off from “the chief.” Liu was non-committal, offering a shoulder shrug to the requests.
His parents, Hana and Kevin, joined Cayden and Staff Sgt. Sean Rocca on a tour of the police station.
Before his tenure was through, Cayden was due to get fingerprinted, learn about the SWAT team, and meet the K9 unit.
