CAA Atlantic has released the results of its 11th annual Worst Roads campaign in Atlantic Canada.
Only one road in New Brunswick made the top ten list which was Scotch Lake Road in York County.
“Severe winter weather and rapid freeze-thaw cycles were particularly tough on roads this spring across Atlantic Canada,” says Steve Olmstead, Director of Social Responsibility and Advocacy at CAA Atlantic.
He notes how rural roads were strongly represented in this year’s list.
Olmstead says the information will be shared with governments – both provincial and municipal.
“If governments want to have a chat about how we came up with that information, we’re more than happy to have a conversation and share what we know. It’s important to recognize I think that governments do put a lot of time, planning and money behind road repairs. So anything we can do to help make roads safer for all users, we’re happy to do it,” says Olmstead.
Over the three-week campaign this year, 4,433 votes were cast by the public with every road in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador eligible.
Votes came from all types of road users, including drivers, cyclists, pedestrians, public transit users and motorists.
