The Progressive Conservatives have swept two byelections in the Miramichi area.
Réjean Savoie is the MLA-elect for the riding of Miramichi Bay-Neguac.
He beat Liberal candidate Shawn Wood by more than 500 votes, according to the unofficial results from Elections New Brunswick.
Savoie finished the day with 2,286 votes while Wood had 1,753 votes.
Green Party candidate Chad Duplessie had 772 votes, People’s Alliance candidate Tom L’Huillier received 172 votes, and independent Richard (Hoss) Sutherland had 99 votes.
Meanwhile, in Southwest Miramichi-Bay du Vin, Mike Dawson received 2,542 votes compared to the 1,737 received by Liberal candidate Hannah Fulton Johnston.
Larry Lynch with the People’s Alliance received 363 votes while Julie Guillemet-Ackerman with the Green Party had 223 votes.
The two seats have been vacant since Liberal MLA Lisa Harris (Miramichi Bay-Neguac) and Progressive Conservative MLA Jake Stewart (Southwest Miramichi-Bay du Vin) resigned to run in last summer’s federal election.
The PCs will now have 30 of the 49 seats in the provincial legislature, the Liberals have 16 seats, and the Greens have three seats.
