New Brunswick health care facilities are loosening visitor restrictions implemented as a result of COVID-19.
The province’s two health authorities announced the return of general visitation effective Monday, June 20.
General visitation had been suspended at all Horizon and Vitalité facilities for the past several months.
Admitted patients are now able to welcome one social visitor or one designated support person (DSP) at a time.
Unlike a social visitor, a designated support person is someone the patient wants involved in their care and can include family members, close friends or other caregivers and are designated by the patient or substitute decision-maker.
Social visitors must be screened before entry, be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and wear a mask at all times.
In addition, visiting hours for social visitors are limited to between 2 and 8 p.m. daily. Hours for designated support persons are flexible and determined in discussion with the health care staff.
