Voters in two Miramichi-area ridings are heading to the polls on Monday to elect new MLAs.
Byelections are being held in Miramichi Bay-Neguac and Southwest Miramichi-Bay du Vin.
Both seats have been vacant since Liberal MLA Lisa Harris and Progressive Conservative MLA Jake Stewart resigned to run in last summer’s federal election.
Stewart defeated Harris by just over 1,400 votes to become the next MP for Miramichi-Grand Lake.
The Progressive Conservatives, Liberals, Greens and People’s Alliance each have candidates running in both ridings. There is also an independent candidate in the riding of Miramichi Bay-Neguac.
Currently, the Progressive Conservatives have 28 seats, the Liberals have 16 seats, and the Greens have three seats.
Polls are open from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Results will be posted on the Elections New Brunswick website after the polls have closed.
