A vehicle drove the wrong way on Route 1 during morning rush hour on Wednesday.
Saint John Police got a complaint about a red sedan travelling westbound in the eastbound lanes from the Harbour Bridge to the Fairville Boulevard exit.
At approximately 6:39 a.m., emergency personnel were called to a head-on collision involving a red car and grey SUV on Route 1 eastbound near the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Both drivers were taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
City police want to hear from anyone who witnessed the crash.
The Saint John Police Forensic Unit and Accident Reconstruction processed the scene.
