Ukrainian students at the New Brunswick Community College (NBCC) will now have some financial support this fall.
The college will provide a minimum of 20 tuition bursaries to incoming and returning students affected by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Grants cover the full cost of international tuition to NBCC, which comes out to $9,468.
“All of us at NBCC have witnessed, with the rest of the world, the strength, determination, and courage shown by the Ukrainian people,” said Mary Butler, president and CEO of NBCC, in a news release.
“As part of our commitment to nurturing a sense of belonging and embracing culture and diversity, we felt it was important to find a way to support our Ukrainian students during this challenging time.”
To avoid placing any additional burdens, the college said students will not have to apply for the bursaries. Instead, staff will identify and notify those eligible about the program.
NBCC will also award 12 donor-funded bursaries to support students who do not qualify for the Ukrainian Student Bursary. Those grants total out to $1,000 each.
Ukrainian citizens can also defer tuition deposits on NBCC applications for the 2022-23 academic year.
