Saint John police were called to the area of King’s Square early Saturday afternoon to a report of a suspicious package.
Officers say an unidentified man left a bag shortly before 3 p.m. near the RBC branch at the corner of King Street and Charlotte Street.
According to a 911 caller, the man allegedly claimed the bag contained an explosive.
Police evacuated the area while the RCMP’s Explosive Disposal Unit investigated.
Mounties found the bag did not contain any explosives.
Police are now investigating and are asking the public’s help in locating the male suspect.
He is described as a Black male believed to be in his late 20s or 30s.
He is about 5’8″ tall, and was wearing wearing a red hat, blue jacket, blue pants and red shoes.
Investigators ask anyone with information about the incident to contact the Saint John Police Force or Crime Stoppers.
