A fatal collision occurred on Saturday.
At approximately 1:40 p.m. members of the Neguac RCMP, Ambulance New Brunswick and City of Miramichi Fire Department responded to a report of a collision between a car and a pickup truck on Route 8, near Bartibog.
“The collision is believed to have occurred when the car, travelling southbound on Route 8, crossed the centreline, which resulted in a head-on collision with the pickup truck, travelling northbound,” reads an RCMP release.
A 72-year-old woman and a 55-year-old woman both from Dieppe were occupants of the car and died at the scene as a result of their injuries.
The driver and sole occupant of the pickup was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
“An RCMP collision reconstructionist and a member of the New Brunswick Coroner’s office are assisting with the investigation. An autopsy will be scheduled to determine both individuals’ exact cause of death,” added the release from RCMP.
Route 8 was closed for approximately five hours and has since re-opened.
Members of the Tracadie RCMP, Chaleur Region RCMP, and Miramichi Police Force assisted at the scene, as well as members of the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure and the Department of Justice and Public Safety.
Officials mentioned that the collision remains under investigation.
