Saint John police say an arrest has been made in connection with an ongoing sexual assault investigation.
Police say the incident happened in the area of the Courtenay Bay Causeway around 3:30 a.m. on May 8.
Investigators say a woman walking in the area was pushed into the bushes and sexually assaulted by an unidentified man she had met earlier in the evening.
The 40-year-old woman was able to escape and flag down motorists who called police. According to police, she sustained non-life threatening physical injuries.
An investigation by the Family Protection Unit led to the arrest of a 24-year-old man on Thursday.
The accused appeared in court on Friday on charges of sexual assault, uttering threats, and criminal negligence causing bodily harm.
He is scheduled to return to court on Monday for a bail hearing.
