The town of Rothesay held a celebration Wednesday afternoon.
An open house was held at the Rothesay Hive where participants celebrated the renewal of Rothesay’s designation as an age-friendly community.
“As well as our re-designation as an age-friendly community, and three years of operation of the Rothesay Hive age-friendly community centre, so it’s a provincial designation and has to be applied for every three years, so we have just received our first re-designation,” said Rothesay Mayor Nancy Grant.
The celebration was hosted both indoors and outdoors and included music performed by students from Rothesay High School.
“Another reason to celebrate is that we are officially opening the Rothesay Hive because of course we had several hiccups, with closures, and partial closures due to COVID-19, but we’re back in business,” continued Grant.
Grant also mentioned that the town has a new partnership with the Saint John Newcomers Centre.
“They are offering programming here at the Rothesay Hive every Thursday morning from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., and the program is called future engage, and it’s a hybrid program.”
Grant added that the program is designed to bring together newcomers, seniors, and youth.
“So, they will have the opportunity to share and engage with each other’s age group, and each other’s cultures.”
