New Brunswick recorded three additional deaths related to COVID-19 for the week ending Saturday, May 28.
That is according to the latest weekly COVID-19 report released by the Department of Health on Tuesday.
The latest deaths, according to the provincial report, involve one person in their 70s and two people in their 80s.
There have now been 419 deaths attributed to the virus in New Brunswick since the pandemic began.
Meanwhile, New Brunswick’s two health authorities are reporting a significant drop in the number of active COVID-19 hospitalizations.
The latest figures show 59 people in the hospital as of Saturday, which includes four in intensive care. That is compared to the 96 hospitalizations and 12 ICU admissions reported by the health authorities one week earlier.
- Horizon Health: 30 active admissions, two in intensive care.
- Vitalité Health: 29 active admissions, two in intensive care.
The figures reported by the health authorities include those hospitalized for COVID and those with the virus being treated primarily for other conditions.
Meanwhile, the latest weekly COVIDWATCH update from the province showed 25 people in the hospital for COVID-19 as of Saturday, a decrease of two. The number of people in an ICU for COVID-19 remained unchanged from a week earlier at two.
The numbers from the province only include patients who were hospitalized as a result of COVID-19.
There were 14 new hospital admissions for COVID over the past week compared to 21 new admissions the previous week, according to Public Health. One of those new admissions involved someone under the age of 20.
According to health officials, there were no new ICU admissions for COVID-19 over the past week.
“The highest portion of hospitalizations for COVID-19 is among individuals aged 60-79,” the Department of Health said in its weekly report.
According to the two health authorities, 91 health care workers were off the job as of Saturday after testing positive for COVID-19, down from 143 a week earlier.
There were 1,005 reported positive cases of COVID-19 over the past week, including 554 PCR tests and 451 rapid tests. Last week, there were more than 1,400 positive test results reported.
In terms of vaccinations, the Department of Health says 852 doses were given out over the past week, including 90 first doses, 198 second doses, and 564 booster doses.
Eighty-eight per cent of eligible New Brunswickers have received two doses and 52.4 per cent have received booster shots.
