The purchase of electric vehicles in New Brunswick has skyrocketed since the province began offering rebates.
The New Brunswick Lung Association is promoting electric vehicles with its Drive Electric Atlantic program.
Spokesperson Alyse Wilton said the provincial rebate is in addition to the federal rebate.
“You could get up to $5,000 off of your vehicle (federal rebate) and they’re additive so in New Brunswick you can have up to $10,000 off of the purchase price of your electric vehicle.”
Wilton noted how sales across the province were slow prior to the rebates.
“Before that, there were just 100 or 200 new electric vehicles purchased a year. But in 2021 we had close to 1000 electric vehicles purchased.”
The Drive Electric Atlantic program held a test drive event in Dieppe over the weekend allowing the public to try out electric vehicles.
