Mounties continue to investigate after two peace officers were shot at in western New Brunswick last fall.
The incident happened along Route 2 near Ritchie, just west of Nackawic, on the morning of Nov. 5, 2021.
According to police, Justice and Public Safety officers were doing enforcement patrols when they saw a car speeding the wrong way on the highway.
“The peace officers engaged their emergency equipment and pursued the car,” RCMP said in a news release.
“During the pursuit, a passenger in the back seat of the car discharged a firearm at the peace officer’s vehicle, striking the passenger side window and the driver’s headrest.”
One of the officers suffered minor injuries during the incident, according to police.
The car then turned around on the highway and was last seen driving the wrong way in the eastbound lanes.
“The peace officers involved in this incident are exceptionally fortunate to not have been seriously injured, or worse. We are continuing to follow every lead to find those responsible,” said Cpl. Hans Ouellette.
“We have reason to believe there are people in the area who have information about the incident or the persons involved. We need those people to come forward to police or Crime Stoppers.”
The suspect vehicle is described as a small dark grey or silver four-door car.
The driver is described as a man in his early 20s who was wearing a black ball cap and dark lensed glasses. Police believe there was one other person in the car, but no description is available of that person.
Anyone with information is asked to call Nackawic RCMP at 506-575-6200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
