The City of Saint John is mourning the loss of one of its public works employees.
Jeff Ermen passed away unexpectedly on Saturday at the age of 45, according to his obituary.
Ermen joined the city’s public works department as a skilled worker back in 2019.
In a news release, the city said Ermen was always willing to lend a helping hand and go above and beyond for his team.
“He always came to work with a big smile, ready to tackle the day, and make everyone else’s day a bit brighter at the same time,” said the release.
Ermen also worked with Optimum Ride as a bus driver and was a referee for the New Brunswick Football Officials Association.
As well, he was an avid volunteer with the Kennebecasis Baptist Church and Outflow Men’s Shelter, and was a frequent blood and plasma donor.
“Jeff would do everything in his power to help anyone in need. He was the ‘yes’ man,” said his obituary.
A celebration of life will take place for Ermen on Friday. City flags will be lowered to half-mast that day in his honour.
