New construction in Saint John is showing no signs of slowing down any time soon, according to the city’s deputy mayor.
John MacKenzie said the city has already received 35 building-related permit applications worth $2.9 million so far in March.
That includes one “high-value” application worth $1.9 million for the Saint John Regional Correctional Centre, he said.
“I hear a lot of people that are saying, ‘well things are starting to slow down in Saint John,’” MacKenzie said during Monday’s council meeting.
“Folks, things aren’t slowing down in this city. This city has turned around and is going forward at a record pace.”
So far in 2022, the city has received 251 permit applications with a construction value of more than $54 million, said MacKenzie.
