New Brunswick recorded five additional deaths related to COVID-19 in an update for the week ending Saturday, May 14.
The latest deaths involve someone in their 60s, two people in their 80s, and two in their 90s.
The death toll has reached 411 since the pandemic started.
Meanwhile, the province’s two health authorities have reported 121 patients in hospital related to the virus including six in the ICU with 165 staff members absent due to COVID. Here is the breakdown:
Horizon Health Network
- 93 in hospital, including 5 in ICU (Last week: 67 in hospital, 7 in ICU)
- 64 staff members absent due to COVID
Vitalité Health Network
- 28 in hospital, 1 in ICU (Hospitalizations down, but last week’s are not available)
- 101 staff members absent due to COVID
Individuals aged 60-79 made up the highest portion of hospitalizations.
Meanwhile, the weekly COVIDWATCH update from the province showed 35 people in the hospital for COVID-19 as of Saturday, a decrease of 12. The number of people in an ICU fell by two and is down from four.
The numbers from the province only include patients who were hospitalized as a result of COVID-19.
For the week of May 8-14, the number of PCR confirmed cases decreased to 1,004 and the number of positive rapid tests fell to 838.
In terms of vaccinations, the Department of Health states 88 percent of eligible New Brunswickers have received two doses and 52.2 percent have received booster shots.
