Codiac RCMP are looking to hear from other potential victims with a sexual assault investigation at a school that dates back to the 1980’s.
An investigation was launched in August 2021 after complaints were received about incidents involving a male teacher at École Champlain elementary that allegedly occurred in 1987 and 1988.
Seventy-five-year-old Paul J. Maillet from Notre-Dame was arrested and charged with invitation to sexual touching, sexual assault, and acts of gross indecency.
He was released on conditions, pending a future court date.
There is a court-imposed publication ban on any information that could potentially identify the alleged victim.
“This is still an active investigation, and we are working diligently to understand if there were other victims,” said Sgt. Mathieu Roy, with the General Investigation Section of the Codiac Regional RCMP. “Everyone should know that a sexual assault complaint can be made at any time, and there is no statute of limitations as to how far back the assault happened. If you are a victim of sexual misconduct, please contact us.”
If you are a victim, or have any information related to these incidents or similar ones, please contact the General Investigation Section at the Codiac Regional RCMP at 506-857-2400.
If you have information that may assist the investigation and would like to remain anonymous, please contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
