It is not how the Saint John Sea Dogs were hoping their President Cup playoff run would go.
The Sea Dogs were eliminated Thursday after a 4-3 overtime loss to Rimouski in game five of the first-round series.
Rimouski got on the board early in the game with two goals in the first seven minutes of play.
Ryan Francis scored for the Sea Dogs on the power play at 10:24 to bring the team within one goal.
Cam MacDonald tied up the game late in the second and Riley Bezeau made it 3-2 for the Sea Dogs early in the third.
But Rimouski scored again late in the third to tie things up and send the game into overtime.
Alexander Gaudio scored the game-winning goal just 30 seconds into OT to give Rimouski the series win.
While the Sea Dogs may have lost their chance at the President Cup, they will still have an opportunity to bring home the Memorial Cup.
Saint John will host the national major junior hockey tournament at TD Station from June 20 to 29. Also competing will be the champions of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Ontario Hockey League, and Western Hockey League.
