Allergy season is back.
Especially after the last couple of years, many Canadians are feeling stressed and that can sometimes have an impact on allergy sufferers.
Moncton area pharmacist Kyle Arbeau says research has shown stress and allergies are linked.
“People who are under a lot of emotional stress tend to have more allergy flare-ups than people who don’t. Since the pandemic, over 50% of people say that their allergies and their stress levels are worse than they were before the pandemic.”
Besides over-the-counter allergy medication, Arbeau says there are other preventive measures.
“If you go outside, when you come in try to take a shower as quickly as possible because one thing a lot of people don’t realize is that you can bring a lot of pollen in with you. Also, the other thing recommended is trying to keep your house quite clean because it does tend to have an impact on your allergies as well.”
Arbeau says many don’t realize there are different allergy medications for different allergens.
This time of year, it’s also a good idea to keep an eye on the daily pollen count.
He adds the important thing is to not suffer in silence.
