With gas prices expected to hit $2/litre in the coming weeks, there is cautious optimism about people travelling again this summer.
“I think people are still going to get out and around, but certainly gas prices may play a factor into them deciding how far they go or what they do,” said Andrew McNair, CEO for the Tourism Industry Association of New Brunswick. “People are out enjoying a patio, or a bike ride or a hike, so we remain optimistic that tourism season will be positive.”
McNair feels people are anxious to get out and take vacations again, now that there are less COVID-19 restrictions.
“We continue to hear campground operators seeing bookings filling up. We have heard of some cancellations from out of province travellers, but those same cancellations are filling back up with others,” McNair added.
McNair is encouraging everyone to come to New Brunswick.
“The last two years, New Brunswickers have been travelling within the province and have rediscovered their own backyards. That combined with the Tourism New Brunswick invitation initiative, encouraging New Brunswickers to invite family and friends to come and visit from out of the province, hopefully that will increase numbers as well.”
