The top Canadian high school football players will hit the gridiron in Ottawa.
Canadafootballchat.com (CFC) and TSN are bringing back the CFC Prospect Game.
It has been on a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The game will feature 70 of the top high school players from across the country.
Two of those players are from the Maritimes, including Gabe McInroy from Kennebecasis Valley High School (KVHS).
McInroy, the 6’5″ wide receiver will enter grade 12 in the fall for another season with The Blue Knights.
“I’ve played receiver ever since I started playing, and also a bit of safety when they needed me to help on defence, but wide receiver is my main position.”
During the interview, McInroy mentioned that he had to try out in Halifax for the prospect game.
“At the tryout in Halifax we did regular combine drills, such as a 40-yard dash, long jump, and then we had a little competitive period where we put on our gear and ran some one-on-ones, stuff like that.”
While nervous about the big game, McInroy is still excited to get out on the field and run some routes.
“Definitely some nervous, but I trust myself and my ability, and all I can do is go out there and try my best.”
After high school is complete, McInroy plans to go to a university with a football program.
“I’m hoping for a scholarship, but obviously where ever I can fit in for my education.”
At the end of the interview, McInroy mentioned his favourite route to run.
“Definitely a streak, just a straight go ball because I’m a big guy and I love those jump balls.”
The CFC Prospect Game will be played in Ottawa at TD Place Stadium on May 27 at 1:00 p.m. EST.
The game will air on TSN.
