Trial dates have been set for a Saint John police officer accused of using excessive force during an arrest.
Const. Benaiah Sok will stand trial on a charge of assault causing bodily harm from Feb. 13 to March 1, 2023.
A pre-trial conference has also been scheduled for later this spring, on the afternoon of June 1.
Sok was not present in the Court of Queen’s Bench on Monday morning when the dates were set.
The three-year member of the force had previously elected to be tried by a judge and jury.
Sok was charged in December following an investigation by members of the Fredericton Police Force.
Saint John’s police chief requested the investigation after receiving a report of a member using excessive force while trying to make an arrest uptown in August.
Sok was previously reassigned to administrative duties, with no public contact, pending the criminal proceedings.
The police force said a Police Act investigation will take place once those proceedings have concluded.
