More money for the province’s tourism sector is being welcomed by the Tourism Industry Association of New Brunswick.
The Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture’s budget is nearly $69 million this year, an increase of $14 million.
Andrew McNair, chief executive officer of TIANB, said the timing for this extra investment is spot on.
“Excellent news as we hopefully come out the end of a two-year pandemic and with it being so difficult for tourism operators all around the province and honestly all over the world,” McNair said in a recent interview.
“It’s going to be nothing but positive news and it’s going to help the industry.”
The budget includes more than $1 million for the recently-launched Invitation strategy, the province’s five-year tourism plan.
More than $4 million will be spent to promote and increase tourism in the province.
New Brunswick’s provincial parks will also receive an investment of more than $20 million.
“I certainly think that investment in anything to get people out and active and exploring their province and spending their money in the economy is all wonderful,” said McNair.
Meanwhile, the arts and culture sector will get an additional $3.2 million this year. Support for the film, television and new media industry is increasing by $2.5 million.
Organizations that provide an opportunity for sport participation and active living will receive $4.6 million.
