The team from Area 506 started to move the first group of shipping containers over the weekend for the Container Village.
The new permanent waterfront container village will showcase retail shops, a performance space, a waterfront container bar, food trucks, public art and pop-up activities.
“On April 30, we moved 34 of the 54 containers, and this thing is really starting to take a life of its own,” said Ray Gracewood, founder of Area 506, in a video posted to YouTube.
Gracewood mentioned that the team continues to make great progress.
“Everybody’s working very hard to get things ready, all of our electrical is pretty much done, carpentry is well underway, the painting is in a good place, our welding is in a good place.”
Construction is well underway at the permanent site, which is located next to the Marco Polo cruise ship terminal.
“Now we are moving over to our actual site where we start tie-ins, the electrical gets tied in, some plumbing, we’ll start to see the bar being built,” said Gracewood.
Gracewood added in a couple of weeks, residents will be able to see Graffiti Alley — a 120-foot long, 20-foot high feature of mural and graffiti work — come to life.
The permanent site is expected to be open in June.
