New Brunswick is making record investments in tourism and the arts and culture sector this year, according to the provincial government.
The Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture’s budget is nearly $69 million, an increase of $14 million.
“Over the past two years, the various sectors and organizations we support have been forced to pivot multiple times in response to the pandemic,” Minister Tammy Scott-Wallace said in a news release.
“The record investments we are making this year clearly demonstrate that our government recognizes the challenges they face and the important work they do.”
The budget includes more than $1 million for the recently-launched Invitation strategy, the province’s five-year tourism plan.
More than $4 million will be spent to promote and increase tourism in the province.
New Brunswick’s provincial parks will also receive an investment of more than $20 million.
Meanwhile, the arts and culture sector will get an additional $3.2 million this year.
Support for the film, television and new media industry is increasing by $2.5 million.
Organizations that provide an opportunity for sport participation and active living will receive $4.6 million.
