The Department of Health says rapid test distribution sites will be operational on Good Friday and Easter Monday in Moncton, St. Stephen, Sussex, Saint John, Fredericton, Edmundston, Campbellton, Bathurst and Miramichi.
The Woodstock distribution site will be open Easter Monday.
Spokesperson Bruce MacFarlane said overall access is not an issue in New Brunswick.
“We are aware that some locations are busier than others. However, every effort is made to ensure New Brunswickers have timely access to rapid tests with sites monitored for fluctuations in demand, and real time adjustments made as needed.”
But the leader of the Green Party begs to differ and is calling on the province to make rapid tests easily accessible for all New Brunswickers.
“We know from experience that long weekends are followed by an uptick in COVID cases,” said David Coon.
“New Brunswickers want to have peace of mind that they won’t be putting elderly or immunocompromised family members at risk by visiting them this long weekend.”
Since January the Higgs government has restricted rapid test availability to New Brunswickers under the age of 50 who have COVID symptoms.
While Nova Scotia provides free access to rapid tests at libraries and MLA offices, New Brunswick is using an online registration system and you must have COVID symptoms to get a test.
