Members of a disability advocacy group are hoping to finally get some answers from Premier Blaine Higgs who intends to meet with them later this month.
Since forming two years ago, the New Brunswick Coalition of Persons with Disabilities says letters to the premier’s office were acknowledged with little more than form letter responses.
The coalition noted how there wasn’t much good news in the recent provincial budget for those with disabilities trying to live off just over $800 per month.
The group recently invited the premier to attend one of their weekly coffee chats to answer their questions.
“We sat there listening, as one of our members described how he hardly eats because there is just not enough food for the whole month,” one part of the invitation letter read.
While yet another throws out a challenge to the premier: “Week after week, we try to convince our members that the government does care, and they will do something. But Premier Higgs, we are all out of answers. We are volunteers and we are tired. We are tired of seeing the sadness every time an opportunity is missed to help them. We just don’t know what to say anymore. And so, we would like to extend an invitation to you, Premier Higgs. We want to give you a chance to answer their questions at our coffee chat.”
The coalition says the invitation was accepted by the premier’s office and plans are underway for the event to be held on April 24 at 7 p.m.
Registration will be limited to only members of the coalition.
