The federal Liberals bring down a budget this afternoon.
There are reports it will contain measures addressing housing, boosting the sale of electric vehicles and increasing military spending.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says they are also focused on reducing the debt.
“We are making sure that we continue to be fiscally responsible. We will continue to present that track of a declining debt-to-GDP because it matters to Canadians,” says Trudeau.
The government in December projected a deficit of just over $58 billion for the next fiscal year.
The Opposition is concerned about the budget’s details.
This is the first budget since the Liberal-NDP pact.
Conservative Finance Critic, Ed Fast, is worried about the influence the NDP could have on the budget.
“I am very concerned that the NDP will be pulling the Liberal government far to the left and, in the process, will leave millions of Canadians struggling to get back into the middle class,” says Fast.
Fast wants to see spending reigned in and a target when finances will be balanced.
