BB, pellet, and airsoft guns are all types of imitation firearms.
They can be indistinguishable from real firearms, especially from a distance, which can present serious safety issues for the public and police.
With that in mind, the Saint John Police Force is raising awareness about the dangers and law as it relates to these types of firearms.
The force mentioned in a release that its members have encountered several incidents involving imitation firearms.
“Using an imitation firearm during the commission of an offence or for a dangerous purpose can result in additional criminal charges. Under the Criminal Code of Canada, an imitation firearm is an object that is found to resemble a firearm and includes a replica firearm,” reads the release.
Police encourage residents to use imitation firearms responsibly and not show them in public.
