Local 10-year-old girl, Hailey Payne, is making and selling bracelets and keychains to raise money for Ukrainian relief, demonstrating how no gesture is too small, no gesture is insignificant to help the people of Ukraine.
“Making bracelets was something I like to do, and after seeing all that [the news], I was thinking for an idea to do and then I just thought of making bracelets research because that’s something I like to do and people I’m sure would appreciate it too,” said Hailey.
Hailey says she began thinking about what she could do to help after watching the Ukrainian war on the news and seeing children and their parents being displaced and attacked by bombs.
Hailey’s mother, Lisa Wilson says her daughter purchased all the supplies and loom kits with her own money and made the bracelets and keychains in the Ukrainian colours of blue and yellow.
“She’s really proud of herself and I’m super proud of her to actually think about other people like this,” said Wilson. “I just I was really happy that she could think about people that she doesn’t even know and want to be able to help them in some small way.”
Hailey began selling her bracelets and keychains on March 3 and has raised nearly $300 so far. She wants to raise $500-$600 by the end of the month and has extended her fundraising to the end of April.
