The Saint John Police Force (SJPF) is alerting the public of an ongoing bail scam.
The call usually involves a fraudster calling and identifying themselves as a relative, lawyer, or police officer.
The fraudster then claims that the victim’s relative has been arrested and asks them to send bail money.
Once the transaction is complete, the fraudster tells the victim they should not talk to anyone about the arrest.
In a release, SJPF asked residents if they receive these types of calls to hang up and call the police.
The force receives over 100 complaints related to telephone and internet scams each year.
